Vehicles

In the kind of post war scenario where MgM is active, the entire infrastructure is normally destroyed. If we are lucky, a few kilometres of tarred road will be free of deep pot-holes but the rest will be nothing but holes. Almost all bridges and waterways are destroyed, most landing strips are unused and overgrown, water pipes are burst, water dams are silted up and power pylons have fallen. Repairs to these essential parts of the infrastructure are mostly impeded by the danger that the roads and access routes are mined.

That is why MgM’s demining efforts and methods include the provisional re-establishment of traffic ways.

By opening them up, we enable the repair of other essential infrastructure by government institutions and private construction firms who are able to get to them safely. To achieve this MgM is in possession of a specialized and conscientiously maintained fleet of vehicles, some of which are mine-protected. This allows our continuously trained teams to be mobile and to operate under almost all conditions. Apart from 34 four-wheel drives and 4x4 ambulances, 6x6 and 8x8 trucks and armoured road repair vehicles are deployed.

Of course all MgM vehicles are well equipped. Extras include electric and manual winches, hydraulic cranes, double spare tires, additional lighting, additional tanks for water, oil and gasoline as well as cases with complete tool sets, repair kits, spare parts and first aid kits. Our 6x6 Mercedes tow truck carries a complete field workshop including a variety of welding tools.

The fleet is completed with heavy saddle lorries, tank trucks and various trailers. Only with such equipment is it safe to deploy our teams in isolated, devastated and dangerous post-war scenarios. To further reduce the still high risk from mines and bandits, some vehicles are armoured to protect against mine explosions and all are equipped with the most modern radio and navigational devices.
